Washington State Senate

Session Legislative Aide
Jan - March 2026

I recently served as a Session Legislative Aide in the Washington State Senate, supporting the 32nd District Senator throughout the legislative session. Our office was a small but focused team made up of the Senator, his Legislative Aide, our intern, and myself, which meant I stayed closely involved across all areas of the office's work. My responsibilities included:

Bill Tracking & Legislative Research: I monitored the progress of legislation the Senator sponsored, co-sponsored, or held interest in, tracking each bill through committee hearings, floor votes, and other key milestones in the legislative process. When multiple constituents or interest groups were raising concerns around the same bill, I helped flag it for greater attention and prioritization.

Executive Scheduling: I managed the Senator's legislative calendar by triaging meeting requests, coordinating with staff and stakeholders, and prioritizing engagements with agency leaders, advocates, and community representatives.

Casework & Constituent Services: I handled casework on behalf of constituents who reached out to the office with specific issues or concerns. I worked to understand each situation, reached out to the appropriate state agencies, and connected constituents with relevant resources to help resolve their concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Office Operations: I served as a primary point of contact for the office, managing a high volume of constituent calls and emails while maintaining strict confidentiality and professional standards.

Strategic Representation & Research: I attended stakeholder meetings as a proxy for the Senator, taking detailed notes on issues discussed and tracking the progress of related legislation. I maintained organized records so they could be referenced later by the Senator, the Legislative Aide, or outside interest groups as needed. When a topic required deeper context, I conducted additional research either proactively or upon request.

Liaison Coordination & Caucus Engagement: I facilitated communication between the Senator's office and a range of legislative partners, including staff from other legislators' offices and legislative coordinators overseeing members across the chamber. As part of the Senate Democratic Caucus, I participated in weekly caucus meetings to align on messaging, constituent concerns, and office priorities. I also attended weekly meetings with Session Aides from both chambers to discuss professional development, share cross-office insights, and coordinate on shared concerns.
